Greetings Fair Trade Educators!
TransFair USA, the third-party certifier of Fair Trade products for the US, is holding a Fair Trade art contest for this World Fair Trade Day, Saturday May 12. The theme of this year's Fair Trade Day is "Kids Need Fair Trade!" and it highlights the ways that children are involved in international trade. Combined with the Fair Trade curriculum that we've put together; this is a fun and interesting way to teach your students about Fair Trade! Check out the links below, and feel free to contact me with any questions you might have about the contest.

Hello everyone,

I just signed up to the group as I'm very enthusiastic about fair trade and education after some wonderful experiences doing fair trade organizing and working with school groups in the Boston area. I am also really interested in your feedback for a set of Fair Trade curriculum materials I'm putting together for Transfair USA, the Fair Trade licensing organization in the US. I've collected some great materials from the UK (where there seems to be more available for educators and youth) but I'd be interested to know what resources you've run across and have found useful, or if you've put anything together yourselves that you'd be interested in having included in the materials I'm assembling.

Or, if you'd be interested/willing to take a look at materials as I draft them, I'd love your feedback! I can be contacted at elisafairtrade@yahoo.com.

Thanks,

Elisa

People around the world share a love of chocolate, one of the most delicious and pleasurable foods on earth. However, thousands of children in West Africa, especially Cote d'Ivoire, are forced to labor in the production of cocoa, the primary ingredient in chocolate. These child workers labor for long, punishing hours, using dangerous tools and facing frequent exposure to dangerous pesticides as they travel great distances in the grueling heat. Those who labor as slaves must also suffer frequent beatings and other cruel treatment.

As people across the country observe Easter and Passover, we will be holding an essay and art contest to raise awareness about child labor in the chocolate industry and find out what young people want to do to stop it!
Top 5 Runner-Ups: Fair trade chocolate bar
Fair Trade sports balls

We've just launched the first dedicated Fair Trade sports ball company in the US (football, soccer, rugby, volleyball).

We've partnered with sister companies in the UK, Canada, and Australia to bring attention from international media to this specific product line within the Fair Trade movement, and to generate dollars for children's charities (we give away all our after-tax profits).

Hope to see you on the site (www.fairtradesports.com) sometime for a visit!

Hi folks. I know friends at Transfairusa.org etc.

I created a one page website.
http://www.childsafechocolate.com

I'm a teacher who was tired of giving out candy made with child labor. So I found some bite sized candy and created a website that introduces people to the idea of Fair Trade.

no need to bookmark it.
